Homemade Piercings

Aftercare guide

Your piercing is an open wound that becomes jewelry-ready with the right care. Follow this guide, be patient, and it will heal beautifully. Every piercing we do comes with a free aftercare kit — this page is the manual.

The daily routine

1

Wash your hands before touching your piercing — always.

2

Clean twice a day (morning and night) with the saline solution from your aftercare kit. Spray or soak a clean gauze and hold it against the piercing for 1–2 minutes to soften any crust.

3

Gently pat dry with a clean paper towel — cloth towels harbor bacteria and snag jewelry.

4

Leave it alone in between. No twisting, no turning, no fidgeting. The 'turn it daily' advice is a myth that slows healing.

What's completely normal

  • Slight redness and tenderness for the first few days
  • Clear or pale-yellow fluid — this is lymph, not pus, and it's part of healing
  • Light crusting around the jewelry — soften it with saline, never pick it
  • Itching as it heals (don't scratch — saline helps)
  • The piercing "waking up" sore again weeks later — healing isn't linear

Never do this

  • Never use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide or antibiotic ointments — they damage healing tissue
  • No swimming pools, hot tubs or baths for the first month (showers are fine)
  • No touching except when cleaning — and only with washed hands
  • No rotating or sliding the jewelry
  • No removing the jewelry before it's fully healed, even overnight — a piercing can close in hours
  • Avoid makeup, lotions and sprays directly on the piercing

Warning signs — contact us

Some redness and soreness is normal. But these are not — message us on WhatsApp (0809 139 4796) or come by the studio:

  • Redness that spreads outward or gets worse after the first week
  • Thick green or dark-yellow discharge with a bad smell
  • Hot, hard, swollen tissue around the piercing that keeps getting worse
  • Fever or feeling unwell alongside piercing irritation
  • The jewelry becoming visibly embedded in the tissue

Don't remove the jewelry if you suspect infection — the hole can trap bacteria inside. Message us first; we'll guide you.
